What is winterization & dewaxing?

Winterisation is another name to the process of dewaxing. The name winterization appears as during winter when the temperature is low, waxes present in the oil crystallizes, they give hazy appearance to the oil. Some oils are dewaxed before packing so as to remove waxes, which are dissolved in the oil.

Is dewaxing required for edible oil refining?

Dewaxing may be the fifth process considered for the edible oil refining. It is not a compulsory process and it is not required for every type of oil. Dewaxing is performed only for high wax containing oils such as Sunflower Oil, Rice Bran Oil, Corn Oil etc.

Does wet dewaxing remove wax?

In most of the cases, it is important to note that wet dewaxing alone removes sufficient amounts of wax to achieve the oil stability required to pass the 24-hour cold test; this is based on average quality sunflower oil with the wax content 600 ppm.

What is a dewaxing process?

The modern dewaxing process using endogenous wax ester hydrolyses (wax desynthetase) activation in optimal reaction conditions provides an efficient, specific and targeted affinity destructuration process orientated towards the wax substrate in order to develop the depparafinage effect.
