How much oil can you press from one kilo oil seeds or nuts?
In the list you can find how much oil you can press using the PITEBA oil expeller from, for example, walnuts, peanuts, sunflower seeds, canola, linseed and many other seeds and nuts. Not all seeds are mentioned in the list. If they contain over 25% oil, the press is suitable.
In South Africa, canola is primarily used for the manufacturing of canola oil and oil cake. Canola is crushed mostly for the vegetable oil market, but it also provides “an attractive alternative source of protein for animal feed, particularly in the Western Cape, where it is produced and processed (BFAP, 2023).
Canola - Explore Saskatchewan Agriculture
The small yellow flower of the canola plant produces tiny round seeds in small pods. Around 40% of the canola seed is oil. The seeds are crushed to produce oil. The rest of the seed is processed into ‘meal,’ which can be used as a high-protein livestock feed.

Canola Yield Results (and Other FAQs from Growers)
Yield will depend on several factors, primarily available water during the growing season. In the low rainfall, wheat-fallow regions, winter canola can yield from 1500-3000 lbs/acre (30-60 bu/acre).
Groundnut farmers in Malawi get an average yield of 1000 kilograms per hectare for CG7 and Nsinjiro varieties and 600 kilograms per hectare for Chalimbana. There is potential for much larger yields with good management practices, such as those mentioned in this issue pack.
Palm Oil - Our World in Data
We can compare crops in terms of their yields – how much oil we can produce from one hectare of land. This comparison is shown in the chart. 12 Palm oil stands out immediately. It achieves a much higher yield than the alternatives. From each hectare of land, you can produce about 2.9 tonnes of palm oil.
The 2019-20 experimental estimates of canola production, local value, area grown and business numbers are produced by combining administrative data from the Grains Levy Payer Register with satellite derived crop mapping from Digital Agriculture Services.
Canola - Field Crops in South Africa
The Western Canadian Oilseed Crushers Association in 1979 registered the name “Canola” for a new type of oilseed selectively bred out of rapeseed. Canola has a much lower erucic acid and glucosinolates content than rapeseed, rendering it suitable for use in food.
It seems that whereas annual oilseed yields may have been vastly overestimated, those of oil palm are more or less correct at about 4.1 MT/ha (made up of 3.68 MT/ha palm oil plus 0.44 MT/ha kernel oil). This means that the oil yield of oil palm per hectare may be as much as ninefold higher than that of temperate oilseed crops.

How much honey does a hectare of canola produce?
