The South Dakota Dakota Soybean Processor’s crushing plant in Volga, S.D., currently processes approximately 85,000 bushels of soybeans per day. The plant in Mitchell is slated to be larger, processing approximately 100,000 bushels a day according to SDSP CEO Tom Kersting. That equates to 35 million bushels of soybeans annually.
The High Plains Processing plant, 2 miles south of Mitchell, is a project of South Dakota Soybean Processors, which already operates two processing plants in Volga and Miller. The company also announced Tuesday that a subsidiary of multinational oil and gas company BP is a major investor in the project.
