President Akufo-Addo on Friday, January 26, commissioned the Sentuo Oil Refinery in an initiative to reduce Ghana’s reliance on oil importation. The operationalisation of the Chinese-owned Oil Refinery is also expected to complement the country’s refinery efforts while awaiting the absolute revamping of the Tema Oil Refinery.

The two-million-dollar Sentuo Oil Refinery has an initial processing capacity of 40,000 barrels per day, scalable to 100,000 barrels when the facility is fully operational. The facility is expected to be completed this year and would operate at a production capacity of five million barrels per year.
The refinery covers a total area of 440,000 square meters. It is linked to an oil jetty at the Port of Tema by pipelines of various diameters for the transportation of crude oil and refined petroleum products. TOR's refining plant was designed in 1963 as a Hydro-skimming plant with an initial capacity of 28,000 barrels per stream day.
